Peter Liversidge
Peter Liversidge began painting the barren landscapes of the American Midwest after studying film in Montana in 1994. Though he never visited The North Montana Plains, his watercolours, text and sound pieces produced over the last few years have referenced the region, an imaginary location he never managed to see.
“Interstate” is a true-to-scale American roadsign produced using (federal approved) US Interstate Green which was only made available to the public a couple of years ago. The font, also called Interstate, is scaled down proportionately to the scale of the work; the reflective material enables viewing at night. The work comes ready with wall fixings. ‘Interstate’ can be mounted on poles and can also be exhibited outdoors.
“Like my other watercolours and text pieces on the North Montana Plains, a real place which I never visited, ‘Interstate’ is a piece about regret, imagination and hope. It was born out of the fact that although it was only a days drive away, I never went there. The sign to a place I never saw makes it a place I can always imagine. At the same time it points to possibilities in the future, and reminds me of a trip I might one day make.”

Neon lights were one of the most familiar sights in the cities of the twentieth century. Shop fronts and building facades are littered with the vibrant colours of neon screaming out their simple slogans. Today though neon has been replaced by LED as the material for the signage of the city.
Commissioned to celebrate The Multiple Store’s 10th anniversary, ‘and’ is a multiple which links the past with the present. ‘and’ also anticipates the future.
Peter Liversidge has been using text in his work for over 15 years. In 2007 he began experimenting with neon, exploring the potential of the material and colour. This is his first multiple to use neon.
